Certainteed 5-Star Protection

CertainTeed SureStart PLUS 5-Star Protection is an enhanced warranty program that covers defects in roofing materials. It offers 50 years of non-prorated coverage and applies to CertainTeed’s architectural and designer shingles. This warranty is also transferable to future homeowners, which can increase the resale value of the property.


To be eligible, the shingles must be installed by a CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster™ contractor, and the warranty must be registered within 60 days of installation. The CertainTeed 5-Star Protection includes:

SureStart PLUS Warranty

This is an extended warranty that CertainTeed offers for their shingles. It covers material defects for 50 years. And it provides additional protection against algae discoloration and wind damage. Which can give homeowners peace of mind when choosing CertainTeed shingles.

Workmanship Warranty

This warranty covers defects in the installation of CertainTeed shingles. It provides added protection for homeowners in case of any issues with the installation. The warranty is valid for 25 years from the date of installation. It's only available if the shingles are installed by a Select ShingleMaster contractor.

SmartChoice Protection

his coverage provides an upgrade to the warranty on CertainTeed accessories. Items such as ridge vents, starter strips, and roof flashing.

LP SmartSide Warranty

LP SmartSide products, including siding, trim, and fascia, are backed by a 5/50-year prorated limited warranty. This means the first 5 years cover 100% labor and material replacement, while the following 50 years offer a prorated warranty on the substrate. All LP SmartSide ExpertFinish products also have a 15-year finish warranty. Key aspects of the LP SmartSide warranty include:

5-Year, 100% Labor & Material Replacement

During the first 5 years, LP covers the full cost of repairing or replacing defective siding, including labor.

50-year Substrate Prorated Warranty

After the first 5 years, the warranty becomes prorated, meaning LP will cover a portion of the material cost for replacement, but not the labor.

Warranty Transferability

The warranty is transferable to subsequent homeowners, providing ongoing protection.

ExpertFinish Finish Warranty

LP SmartSide ExpertFinish products have a 15-year warranty covering the finish.

The 5 Star Protection program is only available to homeowners who have their roofs installed by a Select ShingleMaster, and is the ONLY warranty provided by CertainTeed that includes a workmanship guarantee for 25 years.
